History of the College of Management

The College of Management was established in 1955 as the Institute of Administrative Sciences through an agreement between the University of Tehran and the University of Southern California. The institute aimed to train managers for both public and private organizations and began its activities within the Faculty of Law at the University of Tehran's main campus, collaborating with a group of American professors.

In September 1957, the administration of the institute was transferred to Iranian specialists and professors, and its name was changed to the Institute of Administrative and Business Sciences.

In 1964, with the approval of the University Council and confirmation from the Central Council of Universities, it was renamed to the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Business Management, continuing its educational and research activities under this new title. Since then, the faculty has offered bachelor's programs in Administrative Sciences and Business Management, along with master's programs in Public Administration, Business Management, and Accounting. In 1968, a bachelor's program in Accounting was introduced, followed by a PhD program in Management in 1975, a bachelor's program in Industrial Management in 1983, and a bachelor's program in Insurance Management in 1987. Additionally, the PhD program in Management, which had been discontinued after the Cultural Revolution, was reinstated in 1988.

In January 2000, following a ratification finalized by the University of Tehran Council, and later in July 2000 with the approval of the Council for the Expansion of Higher Education, the faculty’s name was officially changed to the Faculty of Management.

In 2011, the Faculty of Management initiated the construction of the Imam Reza (PBUH) Building in response to the emphasis placed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on developing educational and cultural facilities. This initiative aligned with the faculty's mission in education, research, and cultural engagement. All expenses for this project were fully funded by the Mosallanejad Cultural Foundation.

Recognizing the importance of sports and health for the students, faculty members, and staff of the College of Management, a Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, named “Martyrs of the Faculty of Management”, was constructed in 2015 on the southwestern side of the faculty, with support from the Tehran 6th District Municipality.

With the expansion of the faculty's scientific activities in mind, the Board of Trustees of the University of Tehran ratified a resolution in March 2023 to elevate the faculty's structure to that of a College of Management. This new college comprises four distinct faculties: Public Administration and Organizational Science, Business Management, Technology and Industrial Management, and Accounting and Finance. This upgrade was officially announced on May 2, 2023, coinciding with National Teacher’s Day. The event was attended by the then Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Mohammad Ali Zolfigol, and marked the inauguration of the college’s new entrance gate.

Based on the ratification dated August 6, 2024, by the Board of Trustees of the University of Tehran, and in line with efforts to enhance cohesion and synergy, the Faculty of Commerce and Trade, as well as the Faculty of Tourism, were integrated into the College of Management.
